Last week Facebook unveiled its first major update to the news feed since the feature launched nearly seven years ago. Like every change the company makes to the site, it’s been met with mixed reactions.

Some praise the introduction of multiple news feeds, mobile consistency and a bigger focus on pictures, as well as a cleaner, more organized look. Others claimed it borrowed too much from competitor Google+’s design — in fact, aMashable poll revealed 87.5% of respondents said the new design resembles Google’s social network.

Earlier this week, Pinterest introduced a web-based analytics tool which allows for site owners to track engagement with their sites while on Pinterest. It’s a free tool so the analytics provided are pretty basic. Here’s some of the elements that the tool allows for your company to track:

• Number of pinners and pins that are collecting material from their websites
• Number of repinners and repins from those intital pins
• Total impressions and reach
• Referral traffic

If your company looking for a bit more in terms of trackable data, Pinfluencer and Curalate are still more robust and allow for site owners to identify their most engaged and influential pinners, and track the popularity and reach of their own boards and pins.

No word on the exact date when the new addresses (such as website.book, website.microsoft, website.cars) will be released, but ICANN has announced that these domains will start appearing online around the middle of this year with more to follow by the end of 2013.

ICANN will begin the process with non-English domains, then release English domains that have only been claimed by one applicant, such as .acer for the technology company or .airbus for the aircraft manufacturer, in the weeks following. Domains that have been requested by more than one applicant, such as .technology, will take longer to roll out as ICANN decides which applicant receives them.

Rachel Haot, the City of New York’s Chief Digital Officer, said during a recent presentation in New York City that she expects the city to have the .nyc domain by late 2013 or early 2014. As an example of a potential use for the new domains, New York City will make .nyc available to local businesses and residents. (Source)

How much do these new domains cost? Companies had to pay a one-time fee of $185,000 to secure their name and will be expected to pay $25,000 annually to maintain ownership of it. If you’re a trademark owner who is concerned by such a hefty price tage, then you can still protect your brand by paying $150 annually to keep someone else from registering your namesake.

For this project, AFS needed a dynamic website that showcased their unique offerings to projects that were looking to film in Georgia and take advantage of the tax incentives that state offers for the entertainment industry. From highlighting floor plans and a full virtual tour of the studio along with additional nearby locations which could also be used for filming, the site provides a comprehensive resource for the filming industry.

The website, which was developed using WordPress, allows for AFS to add and edit content whenever needed as well as track detailed traffic stats about who is visiting their site – and how those individuals are first coming to the website.
